Digital Library of the Caribbean - Protecting Haitian Patrimony

I  would like to share this with you.  It comes from the Digital Library of the Caribbean.  Since the earthquake in Haiti they have been assisting the libraries and archives in Haiti in rebuilding efforts.

"The Digital Library of the Caribbean (www.dloc.com) Protecting Haitian Patrimony Initiative (PHPI), organized by the Florida International University (FIU) Libraries and Latin American and Caribbean Center, continues to provide much needed assistance to the damaged libraries and archives in Haiti. The dLOC partner libraries and archives in Haiti have made significant progress and continue to work to repair their facilities, restore their collections, and work to reopen to the public."

What Books Are For

From the HarvardMagazine:

"The Radcliffe Institute was filled to capacity on October 29—not just by historians, literary critics, librarians, computer scientists, and sociologists, but also by graphic designers, publishers, writers, and marketers. [...]one of the goals of the Radcliffe Institute’s two-day conference asking the question “Why Books?” was to avoid the topic of the death of the book altogether. "

I have added two more books to my list of Bahamian books

Ivory  by Eboni Adderley -- a book of poems

Coral Tapestry  by Cheryl Albury -- a book of short stories

I spotted these on a visit to Chapter One Bookstore last week.

Do you have these in your library?

Cordell Thompson's folktale resource

I found this resource earlier this year and just rediscovered it today in a totally unrelated search.

Look under the Folk Tales Tab and you will find a whole lot of information on Bahamian folktales and some actual tales.
Cordell Thompson's Blog

He hasn't added any thing since early this year but what he has there is a whole lot of information.
